ALASKA (unplugged) | LISA WRIGHT | NICK RAVEN | AMELIA MURRAY

This month we’re charmed to be welcoming back ALASKA to the Zeal Acoustics stage. The set will be a special never-done-before, stripped back & unplugged ALASKA set, featuring band members Christian & John.

Forming in 2009, Alaska has always put emphasis on the music. Writing and recording their self titled EP just a few months after their serendipitous beginning. Like any artist aspiring to progress in their musicianship, Alaska has shifted their song writing from the first recordings to the most recent batch of songs, and is currently in the process of recording their debut album. The new compositions maintain elements of the EP, while adding new dynamics and rhythmical movements. With influence ranging from Arcade fire, Radiohead, Sufjan Stevens to Chopin, the unique sound that Alaska brings is “atmospherically gorgeous and utterly sincere” (Metro Magazine).

Another artist we are really excited to have performing for y’all is the Soul/Gospel/Smooth Jazz sister from another mister - LISA WRIGHT.

With an expressive sound and powerful librettos, she plans to make her voice be heard. Her singing is a blend of soulful bliss and delight, which can be compared to well-known artists such as India Arie & Jenifer Hudson.
This singer/ songwriter at just a young age has big plans to make her mark using her persuasive songs that touch listeners and produce positive impact. Lisa’s music is heartfelt and sticks true to what she believes in.
Her bubbly personality is shown in her songs by the funky melodic lines, yet there is also a sophisticated and spiritual sense that dictates throughout.
Lisa has a massive future ahead of her and with such a gifted voice; she is unquestionably one to watch out for.

NICK RAVEN, one of the winners of the Zeal EP Recording grants in 2011 will also be playing some tasty tunes on Friday night.
For such a young man, it's great to see an artist strip his music down to its bare-bone essentials. Like a strapping Neil Young tearway, Nick Raven's 'Blind Man' wails and traipses it's dusty resolve in and under your skin, refusing to let go-MusicHype

Last (but not least) Wellington folk-darling AMELIA MURRAY has relocated to Auckland & completes this months Zeal Acoustics lineup perfectly ^_^
Amelia’s bluesy-folk tunes seem almost tailor-made for this current winter weather.

OPEN MIC will be at the end of the night. Sign up on the blackboard on the night if you are keen to play a few songs.

Coffees, hot & cool drinks & the *new* addition to the cafe menu - the Affogato (a generous scoop of vanilla ice cream, drowned in a shot of supreme fair-trade coffee), will be for sale on the night.

All ages.

See you there ❀
