Local Legends at The Session
Wednesday 8 August
with special guest Reuben Bradley
From 9:30pm at Matterhon, Wellington

Wellington's only weekly jam night, The Session, has been dishing out jams every Wednesday night at Matterhorn for 9 months running now thanks to a thriving Wellington music community and throughout August and September The Session introduces a series that features some of the star talents that the creative capital harbours.

Every fortnight from Wednesday the 8th of August, Local legends at The Session will feature a special guest musician who excels in their field and calls Wellington home. The Local Legends sessions provide an opportunity to see the guest musicians perform in a different musical context to their regular musical environs with The Session House Band, as well as a practical insight into their musical experience through the interactive open jam part of the evening where musicians in attendance are invited to play with the guest.

Local Legends guest # 1 – Reuben Bradley (Drums)
Reuben Bradley is a Wellington native who has traveled the world extensively, drumming with top international jazz performers such as Mike Nock (Aus), Bernie McGann (Aus), Kristin Berardi (Aus), Brenda Earle (Canada), Roger Fox, Roger Manins, Charmaine Ford, Jonathan Crayford and Dixon Nacey. He has performed at every major Jazz Festival in New Zealand and his session styles have led him to work with: Mickey Dolenz (the Monkees) The Coasters, The Drifters, NZSO, CSO, Wellington Vector Orchestra, Sarah Brown and Sacha Vee.

After graduating with a B.Mus (Jazz Performance) from Massey University in 1999, Reuben went on to study with rhythmic masters Scott Tinkler (Aus) and Master Jazz Drummer Barry Altschul in NYC. Although he was awarded the greatly coveted position on the City College Masters course (NYC), Reuben decided to focus on developing his performance abilities and compositional creativity. A decision which saw him take away the NZ Tui Award for Best Jazz Album for his album 'Resonator' in 2011.
