Local noise-rock duo Diving celebrate the release of their debut EP Synesthesia at San Francisco Bath House on Wednesday October 24th.
Swathes of feedback, delay and distortion are Diving’s specialty, delivered in dense sonic atmospheres which split the difference between post-rock and “non-post”-rock.
The brainchild of guitarist Nick Erickson and drummer Rohan Hill, Diving was born in 2010 out of a shared love of heroes such as HDU, Die Die Die and Jakob. Extended jam sessions with Nick’s ever-expanding collection of effects units resulted in an assortment of sprawling post-rock jams, which were whittled down into more cohesive songs as the band began gigging in 2011.
From there, the pair began to relentlessly immerse gig-goers in their sonic maelstrom, becoming live favourites in Wellington and occasionally heading north to Auckland and places in-between.
Synesthesia, to be released on Auckland’s Hell Is Now Love Records, captures Diving at all ends of their sonic spectrum - from the blistering wall of guitar-noise on Entropy to the subtle, hypnotic roll of the poetic title track. The EP will be available on vinyl (a very limited run), CD, or for pay-as-you-like download at divingtheband.bandcamp.com
