Battle-Ska Galactica in association with Intergalactic Entertainment LTD and the San Francisco Bathhouse presents Ska-B-Q, a ska-reggae event to kick off the barbeque season in style!!!
Featuring the ever popular local reggae act Rainbow Country, with their slow-burning grooves, Wellington’s hottest ska band Battle-Ska Galactica, fresh from releasing their debut album, and direct from Hamilton City, cookin’ new band Chatchy, showcasing their own take on ska, in a new genre they have coined “Skankstep”.
The three bands are all unique in their own ways, but they are united by skank; that offbeat rhythm that is ever present in ska and reggae music.
Battle-Ska Galactica have been skankin around Wellington for around 4 years and have gained a loyal following of Ska-heads along the way. With a reputation for high-energy live shows, a 3-piece horn section, a jumping rhythm section, shared lead vocals and shout choruses; this is one band not to be missed. The Battle-Ska Galactica live show is an authentic ska experience, covering musical ground from old-school Jamaican style ska through to UK 2-Tone styles and beyond into SKAotearoa territory.
Rainbow Country have been gracing Wellington stages since 1998, playing alongside some of NZ’s top reggae acts, and rocking the party in their own right. Strong vocal harmonies, big hooky melodies and a righteous groove define this band, with a great stage presence to boot.
Chatchy (Chat-Chee) is what happens when you combine explosive hooks, a huge energy horn section, gigantic synths, earth-shaking bass drops and a larger-than-life stage presence. This 7-piece dub-infused band from Hamilton has got the goods, as evidenced by their winning of the York St Band Experiments competition and the Waihi Beach Hotel Battle of the Bands. They have played all over the North Island, including shows with popular NZ band Six60, and are amping to bring their fresh sound to Wellington.
Ska-B-Q promises to be the best night of live music you are likely to hear on a Sunday, and there will be sausages cooking on the balcony (weather permitting) and the first 50 people through the door will get a free banger. The Ska-B-Q crew have even managed to arrange a day off on Monday, so you can enjoy yourself with impunity!
The show starts early, with doors opening at 7.00pm and the first band on at 8.15. Bring your dancing shoes and celebrate the imminent arrival of summer at Sanfransisco Bathhouse, Sunday 21st of October, Labour weekend.
