Community spirited record label ‘Home Alone Music’ set to celebrate Christmas in Aro Valley
Wellington's boutique community label Home Alone Music is throwing their annual Christmas party on the fourteenth of December at Aro Valley Hall. This year they are celebrating by releasing their first compilation as both a NZ-made 'lathe cut' 8 record and a digital download.
Initially set up by singer-songwriter Timothy Blackman, Home Alone Music has since added folk-band City Oh Sigh, dream-pop duo French for Rabbits and the electro-utopian ensemble Urbantramper to its roster of Wellington based bands. Since holding their first Christmas party at Berhampore record store Evil Genius last December, the collective of bands have been busy working on a variety of projects.
New band French for Rabbits released their debut EP Claimed by the Sea in March 2012, receiving strong radio-play, and culminating in a nomination for Best Folk Album 2013 for the Vodafone New Zealand Music Awards.
This year, Timothy Blackmans’ video for his song Wolves was nominated for an award at the Norwegian short film festival. Recently he has been writing and performing as a duo with Chelsie Preston Crayford AKA Only Child.
Electro-Utopian three-piece Urbantramper celebrated ten years as a band this year, and released their album Internet Freedom is Love and a string of excellent music videos.
City Oh Sigh welcomed new band member, drummer Hikurangi Schaverien-Kaa to the band. They have been working hard on a new album, due out next year. They also performed an amazing film score for the classic film Mantrap at the Wellington Film Festival
