Gig Information

Copious Beats is a DJ Collective and Party Night, established in East London – May 2010, aimed at bringing you a night of progressive beats in a mixed crowd of like minded individuals.

Spearheaded by DBnine (NZ), Upseta (NZ) and Slam (LT), the party was born from our minds, our motivations and our love for playing a diverse range of music. Founded heavily on Soul, Funk, Hip-Hop, Dubstep and D’n’B the party and collective has now grown to boast a night of full spectrum eclectic tastes and talented performers who are ready to take you on a journey through (but not limited to) the seductive flavours of Down Tempo, the grooves of Soul, the edge of Broken Beat, the glow of Funk and consciousness Hip-Hop leading you into the dirtier, heavier and faster tempos of ragga/nu Breaks, garage, ground shakin’ Dubstep, full spectrum D’n'B and the ol’school of Jungle along with anything gets your heart pounding, feet moving and your bass face on!

The energy is vibrant, the people are beat junkies and the music is COPIOUS.

DJ LINE UP IN ORDER:

LO KEY

A DJ first, Turntablist and Record Collector, DJ Lo Key has been DJing in the Auckland Club scene and still is, since the mid 80s.

His musical style/signature is second to none. Since listening to music from a very young age his style has developed into a mixture of Soul, The Breaks, Hip Hop and The Future Love Soul Movement.

I am always listening to good records from the past, present and future. I've always loved DJing and I can't think of any reason why I'd want to stop now.

JASON HOWSON

It was while watching drum and bass DJ Grooverider blending songs together
on tour in the early 1990s that Jason Howson knew he wanted to become a DJ.
Shortly after, he bought himself a set of turntables and began spinning
records. From there he hasn't flinched.

Over the years, Howson has created a legacy of residencies, club nights and
releases which helped pioneer 2 step, UK Garage & Grime In New Zealand. More recently he has become a leading proponent in the burgeoning Dubstep scene.

2009 saw Howson mix the first definitive New Zealand Dubstep compilation
Every Day Dubs. The compilation features some of the countries foremost
Dubstep producers such as Truth, Optimus Gryme & Dutty Ranks. He continues
to receive upfront quality music from NZ & international artists alike, making
his sets unique and trend setting.

Jason is an award-winning DJ. Taking concurrent titles at the NZ
Nite:life awards for 2009 &2010 for Best Dubstep DJ

Jason’s September 2011 appearance on Get Darker TV #109, which was recorded & streamed live to an international audience from a London studio has only help cement his reputation as a NZ Dubstep prime mover.

Whilst spending time in London, Jason re united with MC Koder one of Grime music’s heavyweights from Lewisham, London’s UK Grime capital.

Soon after Koder achieved his goal to spend time with family throughout a New Zealand summer in 2012, and Jason alongside Koder MC achieved their goal of becoming a formidable duo on stage, and in clubs delivering New Zealand’s first real Grime experience to the masses.

Howson’s DJ calendar consists of slots at local & national club nights, in 2012 Jason launched Steam! to fill the void left by Wheel NZ’s longest running Dub step monthly. Additionally he has played support slots for international artists, the most notable include Dizzy Rascal, Pendulum, Benga, Caspa, Rusko, Joker, Distance & Mala. Defining Sets at Phat, Rhythm & Vines, Splore and more recently BW Campgrounds & Northern Bass proves this seasoned DJ is conditioned for any event and crowd capacity.

Jason Howson has spent 10 years plus on radio hosting his weekly radio show
'Silk Cuts in Session' on George FM with co-host Sean Lyons. This is where
the pair test sub bass monsters on a devoted audience, with pod cast
statistics topping 30,000 plays. The shows rates in the top 5 for audiences listening in their region & time slot.

Howson has Owned & Operated Beat Merchants, an online urban culture store based in Auckland for the last 5 years. The company’s events arm has been responsible
in several key Dub step promotions that have help exemplify New Zealand's
obsession for the Dub step sound.

CHEL SANTAMARIA (UPSETA)

Upseta (Chel Santamaria) first got into drum and bass after experiencing Dillinja and Lemon D on their Big Bad Bass tour of New Zealand in 2002. One year later he had built a studio and jumped straight into producing beats! As he was completely inspired by the huge rib cage rattling bass pressure Dillinja had become famous for, his style of production soon followed similar patterns and he began to produce low frequency reaching tunes one after the other over the years. Known for his love of vinyl and the warm sound associated with real dubs.

On the night I'll be playing a mix of Deep, Liquid, Reggae, Dub, Soul, Funk and Jazz influenced Drum 'N' Bass.
