Picture this....
It's Friday the 28th of June, 2013 - a cold Wellington evening and you find yourself in Newtown.
The smell of curry interrupts your end-of-week daze - alas, it is not wafting from a nearby store, but instead you follow it to the Newtown Community Centre at the bottom of Colombo Street.
Curiousity gets the better of you and you enter this unsuspecting building, a building that many before you have never really noticed before.
The smell leads you to the theatre which you enter cautiously...
Inside you find a beautifully warm, fairylight-lit room. Lamps through the hall and stage illuminating a lady serving (very affordable and delicious) curry. Seats and couches occupied by eager listeners are laid out on the dance floor facing the stage, upon which Wellington's voodoo folk band Nikita the Spooky and a Circus of Men are readying their instruments. Cello, violin, double bass, acoustic guitar, and a wide range of strange percussion instruments are visible in the lamplight.
Recorded at Blue Barn Studio in Newtown, Spooky are gonna keep it even more Newtown by having the release of their album Big Sur at the Newtown Hall located at the bottom of Colombo Street.
It's going to be a BYO event, $15 at the door, 8pm they shall open. Due to the location of the venue, the show is going to be starting at 8.30pm sharp. This is no joke.
