Wellington-based The Shot Band was formed from a cheeky onstage rehearsal nearly a decade ago and now forms a lean, stand-up and acoustic band, featuring Rob Joass, Hamish Graham and Bill Hickman.
Three singers, three front men and three songwriters - equally at home in a big festival audience or unplugged at a folk club. Where the spirit of Johnny Cash meets the swagger of Keith Richards, Nick Bollinger. “Excellent,” Michael Flynn, NZ Musician. Rob Joass was also a finalist for Best Country song with Baggage from the last Hobnail album at this year’s NZ Country Music Awards.
Christchurch-based Katie Thompson, who opened for Elton John at his only New Zealand concert in 2011, was a nominee for Female Artist of the Year at the NZ Country Music Awards last year. She has just released her live EP ‘Moving On’ – featuring her version of The Shot Band’s ‘Dead in the Water’.
Katie has a hugely emotive voice and an ability to capture a slice of everyday life in her music. Katie’s second album ‘Impossible’ gained nationwide exposure with two singles ‘Good As Gold’ and ‘Cruel to be Kind’ receiving nationwide airplay.
