Philip Marshall, Nelson born and bred spent quite a few years in Christchurch before returning to his hometown five years ago. His musical involvement has mainly been doing covers in pubs and clubs and playing at weddings and other special occasions. His interest has always been in melody and the lyrics that can convey emotions and meaning in a carefully crafted phrase. “Playing the guitar gave me the chance to sing and share songs I loved with friends and family.” His major musical influences include James Taylor, Van Morrison, Neil Young, Cat Stevens and of course the inspiration of Bob Dylan, Paul Simon and Joni Mitchell. “It’s always a challenge choosing songs when there are so many you love and when your musical influences range from the Crooners of the fifties to the American West Coast sound of the early seventies and the recent re-emergence of acoustic music.”
