No Square, the well-known band in Europe, has been touring around the world for many years and has released 8 albums. No Square has just come back from Brazil, Argentina, Chile, and Uruguay. For their first tour in China, New Zealand and Australia, they are presenting their latest album Les Lois de L'Ephémère.
Within the classic format of jazz, rooted in a modern, close to post-bop style (the works of saxophonist Wayne Shorter and Herbie Hancock come to my mind as references) No Square has developed its own style, based above all in the original compositions: in all their works they have only played music either individually or collectively composed by the quartet's members
In all, the band's collective energy, the way they transmit their cohesion and their mutual commitment but also, their melodic, emotionally expressive improvisations, and creative percussive and rhythmic variations, are a real pleasure to listen to
