Vitamin S and Te Tuhi are excited to present legendary Australian pianist Chris Abrahams playing at Auckland’s Te Tuhi Gallery, January 30th.
Abrahams is one of the most virtuoso, multi-dimensional improvisers of the current age, creating earth shattering soundscapes of colour and resonance that hone monumental forms through time and space.
Internationally renowned as one third of the Australian cult Jazz band 'The Necks', his refined and calculated approach is described as… “letting the music take on a life of its own, guiding it to the start of its journey, and allowing it to bloom into something beyond its constituents — to evolve from its own creator’s history, one’s “memories,” and into its own harrowingly compelling being.” TINY MIX TAPES
Abrahams relentless and steady patterning started to metamorphose the nature of the piano, the upper chords sounding like a distant locomotive hoot, and then an accordion weaving in and out of a shimmering bank of flutes. THE WIRE, UK
