New Zealand band Supermodel is led by singer/songwriter Mark Hanify, his sister Rose on keys, Michael White on the bass, and drummer Tony Kemp.
Live, Supermodel is not to be missed. Mark’s edgy vocals and tricky lead guitar riffs weave naturally alongside Rose’s impressive vocals and keys. Together, the four-piece create rich harmonies reminiscent of The Beatles, Queen, and ELO, driven by rock solid backline – Michael and Tony.
This year, Supermodel hit the studio to record their second album. After spending a few months at Quicksand Recording Studios in Christchurch, Mark Hanify contacted legendary German producer Reinhold Mack (Queen, David Bowie, ELO, The Rolling Stones) and his lifelong dream was realised. Impressed by the band’s demos, Mack agreed to produce their second record Rimu and Roses.
“Best thing since sliced bread,” says Mack, who is responsible for producing some of the biggest hits by Queen, David Bowie, ELO, and The Rolling Stones.
Reviews:
“Totally brilliant production… It was a great pleasure and honour to work for it.”
Eroc, Mastering (The Yardbirds, The Beach Boys, Roy Orbison, The Animals), 2013
“It’s the colour and punch of this debut album that sets this band apart from other bands on the Wellington landscape. Loud, feisty and tightly packaged melodies that evoke the tight, bright pant brigades of the late 60s and the chunky riffs of the 80s and 90s. A mover and shaker of a release.”
Jacqueline Smith, NZ Herald (4 stars), To The Mountains, 2011
“Eye-catching, well put together, confident…”
Martyn Pepperell, NZ Musician Magazine, To The Mountains, 2011
