Gig Information

Dark Folk

A unique voice sings beautiful songs about lost ships and souls on an haunted accordion. Sailor Songs a la Kurt Weill and
glamourous, mesmerising and sweetly weeping soundworlds
but there is always a light in the dark.

Layers of music created with self built instruments, a piano accordion, a loop machine and
Joanna`s voice it speaks to your sorrows and desires, to clear and releases old ghosts.

Joanna Gemma Auguri also known as the singer of the Funeral Folk Band The Cold Hand and her alter ego Ria Gruen, is a Polish born, German raised singer, writer and performer. Her relationship with music as a creative expression began much earlier, singing as child in a catholic church choir. After moving to Berlin where she finished acting school in Berlin in 2005 she wrote and performed several theatre plays whilst collaborating with different electronic and traditional musicians.

2007 saw a South Pacific Tour with Bonaparte as well as starting and curating the popular Amüsemong nights at The Bar 25 Circus, .HBC and Heimathafen Neukoelln in Berlin. Other collaborations with Bridge Markland, The Beez, Aidan Baker (Nadja), The Urban Voodoo Machine, Lalla Morte and Ane Angel as well as participant and co-organizer of the Saddest Song Contest“ side by side with Delaney Davidson, Vic Ruggerio and Steve Abel.

Joanna aims to find the pecularity in music, deep touching moments, stories about losing and finding the places of the heart.

Now she is back to New Zealand. The place of her heart.
