Wellington sonic pop outfit Force Fields and Auckland indie rockers The Neo-Kalashnikovs team up to play a series of shows in May in support of their latest singles Zeroing and Treat Me Right. A bit of an interprovincial blind-date born of a chance online encounter, it’s not only the first time these two acts will share a stage, it’s the first time they’ll meet. Together they’ll be trekking down the North Island, playing a series of high-energy sets and trying to avoid awkward silences inbetween. Whether it’ll end in honeymoon or heartbreak is anyone’s guess, but it’s bound
to be entertaining either way.
No strangers to the Wellington live scene, Force Fields have been pedalling out their distinctively distorted sonic pop since 2009, along the way sharing stages with The Verlaines, Beastwars, Ghost Wave, Cave (USA), and most recently, The Datsuns.
An all-sibling group, The Neo-Kalashnikovs have utilised soap stars and distorted guitars to achieve notoriety both on these shores and beyond. ‘Turn the Tables’ is currently getting a high rotation work out on local radio, with EP download She’s on Heat receiving the click of approval over 6000 times.
It all bodes well for a tour celebrating an essential strand of the New Zealand music scene, and during New Zealand Music Month to boot.
