Gig Information

Jeremy Redmore, former lead singer of Midnight Youth, will appear at The Great South Pacific Tuning Fork on Thursday July 31. This will be the first chance for fans to hear a full show performance of his debut album, Clouds Are Alive, which has already produced the hit radio single “Bad Philosophy.”

Jeremy Redmore is familiar to NZ music fans as the lead singer of Midnight Youth, who released two albums featuring anthemic hits such as “All On Our Own” and “The Letter”. The band had considerable chart success, selling over 30,000 albums and singles in New Zealand and scoring four Top 40 NZ radio hits. They won two New Zealand Music Awards (best group, best album) and a Silver Scroll, and toured the world, gaining a reputation as a top-performing festival act.

After six years however, Redmore decided in 2012 to leave the band and his management, and start following his dreams as a solo act. The result is his debut album, Clouds Are Alive.

Self-written and self-produced, the album was formulated in a very collaborative and grassroots way. Even before heading to the studio, Redmore involved fans in the creative process, posting demos and gathering feedback to make the task of selecting the tracks to record in studio sessions that much easier.

He then delved into the talented stocks of local musicians, both experienced and up-and-coming, to record the songs. Two songs, “One Day Alone” and “Waimarino”, were recorded with acclaimed producer Wayne Bell at Roundhead Studios before Redmore took the helm himself on the remaining tracks at Dave Dobbyn’s Red Trolley Studio in Grey Lynn.

The resulting collection of songs was then mixed by Wellington’s Simon Gooding before being placed in the expert hands of New York’s Emily Lazar for mastering.

Clouds are Alive will be released in New Zealand on Friday, July 25, and can be heard streaming on the NZ Herald website this week.
