Idhayam presents Illamai - in collaboration with Jaymesh Master and Ratna Venkat.
Come an join us for an evening of music, dance and visual art!! We are holding this event for TWO nights only.
Idhayam is a group of nine young musicians from a wide range of backgrounds bringing together Carnatic (traditional indian music) and contemporary western genres such jazz, funk and blues in an exciting new blend of music. These variety of elements are combined in a fascinating manner, to create an enthralling experience for the listener. The music is unexpected, engaging, beautiful and distinctly New Zealand.
They have played to sell-out crowds in Wellington, as well as at Pataka Museum and Parliament House, drawing in multicultural audiences, young and old.
For this event Idhayam is excited to collaborate with Jaymesh Master and Ratna Venkat, two artists who express their creativity through different mediums.
Jaymesh Master is a self taught visual artist. His exhibition Passport: A Walk Through Asia highlights the experiences of the people and the memories that have shaped him as well as exploring his connection with his homeland and heritage.
Ratna Venkat is a professional, classically trained dancer. She specialises in Bharata Natyam and Kuchipudi as well as Kathak, Kaavadi Aatam and Lavni. For this event Ratna will be joining Idhayam on stage in a collaboration of live music and dance.
