JONNY FRITZ
Formerly known as Jonny Corndawg, Jonny Fritz comes to Southern Fork American Fest off the back of a dizzying year. Tours with Alabama Shakes, Dawes, Deer Tick and a whirlwind Australian tour with Wagons, plus the release of his third studio album Dad Country (which was also co-produced by Dawes' Taylor Goldsmith) meant this Nashville songwriter didn't stop. Lucky he's fit!
Fritz is no tear-in-the-beer sap moaning over his lost love and troubles. He’d rather be running marathons than sitting on a barstool. In fact while in Australia prior to his NZ visit, Fritz will be running the Melbourne Marathon. Fritz is also well-known for his unique leather works, including his signature leather work guitar straps (seen all over Nashville and the musical universe!)
ROBERT ELLIS
Young American singer-songwriter Robert Ellis, who Esquire calls “a peculiar but elegant intersection of Bon Iver, George Jones and Jackson Browne,” released his latest, critically acclaimed album, The Lights From The Chemical Plant earlier this year. The Lights From The Chemical Plant was made with renowned producer Jacquire King (Tom Waits, Modest Mouse, Kings of Leon) at The Casino in East Nashville with studio owner Eric Masse (Brothers Osborne, Mikky Ekko, Caitlin Rose) engineering. I want this record to be more about the Paul Simons and the Randy Newmans and the other half of my upbringing, which is very much rooted in pop Ellis recently told Rolling Stone.
Ellis is currently nominated for three awards at the upcoming 2014 Americana Honors and Awards for Album of The Year, Artist of The Year and Song Of The Year. He appeared at The Tuning Fork in November last year, alongside Cory Chisel.
