Out of the beautiful west of Auckland come The Nukes, for a night of roots music with an interesting twist. Comprised of Dave “Fingers of Fire” Parker, David “Snapper” Thiele and Benjamin “Country Boy” Collier, The Nukes discharge three part vocal harmonies, blistering riffs, riotous rhythms and questionable dance moves, and their reckless and riveting live shows feature a fine blend of folk, bluegrass, reggae and post punk. They will hit The Great South Pacific Tuning Fork this November as part of a tour to celebrate the arrival of their second album Lucky Ones. Very special guest for the show will be Matthew Bannister (ex Sneaky Feelings.)
In 2011 The Nukes featured as part of the major TV Doco Bill Sevesi’s Dream and in 2012 they released their debut studio album ‘Each to their Own’ (which now has a companion songbook so players can follow along!). Album no 2, Lucky Ones, has burst out of the blocks fully formed, striding purposefully forth in a perfectly cut suit, waving with a presidential smile.
This is what NZ Musician has to say (Aug / Sept issue)
“Lucky Ones is a revelation, lifting the Nukes not just well above and beyond the level of the majority of ukulele bands… but standing comparison with any acoustic folky songwriter act”…“a variety of beautifully arranged and harmonised songs, that are unpretentious, kiwi-as, yet neatly avoiding the instruments clichéd cutesiness”.
Having played many of NZ’s main festival’s such as WOMAD , ERUPT Festival, Waiheke Jazz Festival SPLORE and many, many more, The Nukes are gearing up for more overseas touring in 2015 following up invitations to play Australia and the UK in 2015.
“‘Original’, inventive and entertaining. The performance skills, personality and banter between the musicians are excellent. There was overwhelming positive audience feedback from the concert (Spiegeltent-Taranaki Arts festival ) and that was one of the reasons I brought them back for WOMAD 2012.”
Drew James Artistic Director WOMAD / Taranaki Arts Festival
“The Nukes are a unique, dynamic and inspiring three piece ukulele band that delights diverse audiences of all ages. They are outstanding musicians, great singers and precise harmonisers who add a comedic edge to their shows – the Nukes experience is uplifting, fun and feel- good.” Amanda Wright Artistic Director: Taupo’s Erupt Festival
