After being left out of pocket a large sum of money when a Courtenay Place bar went into receivership, Wellington musician and busker Graeme James was stunned by the generosity of fans who raised over $5000.00 in just 27 hours through crowd funding platform Kickstarter.
Often seen busking on the streets of Wellington, loop artist Graeme James posted on his Facebook page that his second album would be indefinitely delayed due to the loss of funds. “When I found out about the receivership, seeing all the funds essentially go down the drain I was at a bit of a loss as to how I was going to be able to finish recording the album.”
But the next day he was inundated with responses from fans encouraging him to set up a Kickstarter page. Setting a funding goal of $5000.00 with 14 days to reach it, he was stunned to see that supporters had helped him reach the goal in just 27 hours.
Graeme James’ first album ‘Play one we all know’ was financed through crowd funding of a more literal kind- busking on Cuba Street, and he says “It was a real joy to be able to put my hat out online and see that same kind of incredible generosity come through again.”
