Tyson Smith is pleased to announce the release of his second album The Hollow Tree on October 11 at Rogue & Vagabond.
A wild, musical terrain, more primal and dangerous than where he's been before, The Hollow Tree features Tyson on guitar, vocals, percussion and electric bass alongside local music scene heavyweights Rick Cranson (Little Bushman) on drums and Ed Zuccollo (Harbour City Electric) on Moog Synthesizer.
The pair will be joining Tyson at the Rogue and Vagabond for the release to perform songs from the album with support from Nikita (Flite, Nikita the Spooky and a Circus of Men).
Originally hailing from the North Canterbury coast, Tyson’s musical meanderings over the years have been nothing if not diverse.
He has had stints busking in the subways of New York (whilst there studying with some of the city’s top guitarists), performing in big bands on cruise ships, and soaking up influences in Cuba and Central America. Touring with his sister’s world music group “Mundi” and singer Hollie Smith has seen him perform from Stewart Island to Paris, providing myriad experiences to draw from when writing his own solo material.
The 8-track album was recorded at both STL Audio by Troy Kelly and on
location by Tyson, mixed by Lee Prebble at The Surgery, and mastered by
Mike Gibson at Munki Studios.
