Gig Information

Two of Wellingtons premiere singer-song writers LOUIS BAKER and THOMAS OLIVER come together to perform as a duo for a series of shows this summer starting off in Nelson on SUNDAY 2 NOVEMBER at the MUSSEL INN, TAKAKA.

Performing their own works the friends add a sonic tapestry to each others songs with harmonies, backing vocals and additional guitar parts.

Following performances earlier this year as a duo at Homegrown and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival the artists who both possess the ability to bring a room to an absolute silence hanging on every note to rousing the audience in to party mode will not only play shows in New Zealand but will be returning to Europe in January for a series of duo and solo shows.

Baker has had a phenomenal 2014 after self-releasing his debut self-titled EP in March which charted at #3 in the album charts, having played two European tours, shows in Australia and was recently announced as a finalist for the Silver Scrolls.

“how can anyone have a voice this timeless and soulful in 2014” - Review 'Bearded Magazine' – Field Day

Thomas who is internationally recognised as one of the leading players of the Weissenborn lap-steel guitar and a multi-talented songwriter and vocalist released the first full-length, all instrumental, all Weissenborn album, titled “Beneath The Weissenborn” in 2013 debuting at #6 in the NZ charts, which is no easy feat for an instrumental album, received 5* reviews and sold out shows across the nation.

He joins Leo Kotke, Ry Cooder and Michael Hedges as someone who has made buying a guitar album a must – ***** Stuff.co.nz

Thomas is currently writing his first solo album proper to be released in 2015 which will see him Oliver recently released ‘International You Day’, a tribute to Tony Sly from California punk band No Use For A Name, which gives us a sneak peak in to the recordings that Oliver is working on. Oliver says we can expect a deep and sonically rich impression, with organic instruments alongside loops and samples, and real and grounded lyrical messages.
