Gig Information

Richter City Rebels are a Wellington-based, 9-piece band whose style represents a modern take on traditional New Orleans second line. A diverse collective of musicians make up the Rebels, featuring players from groups such as the NZSO, The Rodger Fox Big-band, contemporary Jazz group The Jac, The RNZAF Band, Myele Manzanza and the Eclectic, and hardcore band Saving Grace.

Richter City Rebels have performed all over the country at festivals like Prana, Palmerston North Festival of Culture and the Wellington Jazz Festival and have 2 albums to their name. ‘Rebels Take Havana’ EP (2012), recorded live, at Havana and their latest studio album ‘We Do It Like That’ (2014), released in October 2014.

After their North Island tour in October/November, The Richter City Rebels are excited to be completing the second half of the album release tour around the South Island through January. 'We Do It Like That' includes compositions from several members of the band and shows off the Rebel's musical ability and stylistic variety. With influences from traditional New Orleans to hip-hop, funk, jazz and blues, 'We Do It Like That' embodies a modern and progressive brass band sound while still encompassing the heart and soul of New Orleans music.

Richter City Rebels live shows are energetic, vibrant and colourful, there is always something to watch, high energy combined with extraordinary musicianship completes the ultimate New Orleans experience. If you enjoy jazz, blues, funk and a whole 'lotta brass, then this is the show for you!
