Biography - The Swan Sisters
Award-winning singer-songwriter Amiria Grenell and accomplished professional actor & musician Amy Grace are The Swan Sisters. Theirs is a delicate blend of music styles: alt. folk with beautiful harmonies, a touch of country, a bit of dreamy pop and a dash of swingin’ blues. It encapsulates their friendship and love of storytelling.
They met and began songwriting and performing together in 2002 when they were studying at NASDA for Bachelor of Performing Arts. Throughout the following years, they both juggled theatre careers with songwriting and performing and, despite their nomadic lifestyles, managed to play with each other regularly throughout New Zealand.
Amiria is a popular singer-songwriter whose album, Three Feathers, won the Tui Award for Best Folk Album NZ Music Awards 2012. She has toured Australasia with Fly My Pretties and is in constant demand for festivals and events, both as a solo performer and a children’s entertainer.
Amy has collaborated and toured with many of Aotearoa’s most cherished musicians, and whilst living in London, she toured with Mara and the Bushkas and established herself performing with her band 'Amy Grace and the Bambinas'.
Amy also works as a full time actress, taking many leading roles around the country under the name Amy Straker.
