Gig Information

This January see’s two of New Zealands country, folk whatever bands unite for a one off roots, rock, rebel, reel and roof raiser in the historic Cabana in Napier, not only Hawkes Bay’s but also New Zealands longest running live music venue.

Iconic country gentlemen and creators of some of the finest songs in the New Zealand cannon, The Warratahs will team up with hard driving, stage cracking folk singing wanderers The Eastern on January 29th. They’ll be coming from all points south for what promises to be a grand hooley of the highest order. Both bands promise to twist the bay’s roots music audience’s ear away from northern hemisphere twang and place them right at the volume and heart end of New Zealand’s fine country tradition of heart holding balladry and rock’n’roll spirit.

Firmly entrenched in the country’s psyche and with a set list dripping in NZ jukebox classics The Warratahs have been offering truth and tune for nearly 30 years and have become dear to the hearts of all New Zealand radios. With over 85,000 albums sold in New Zealand alone and a reputation for refusing to ever allow a laurel to linger beneath their collective bum the Barry Saunders led band, delve deep in their catalogue every night looking for magic and creating alchemy. This attitude and commitment to the music not just the legend never fails to make even the casual Warratahs listener a dedicated fan.

They join forces with Young Turks The Eastern not for the first time but for the first time in Napier, further strengthening the bond these two bands have grown over the past few years. The Eastern have a reputation as NZ’s hardest working band having played everywhere worth playing and everywhere that isn’t at least 3 or 4 or 17 times over the past 8 years. Through the grind of gears and 200 shows a year The Eastern have become according to the NZ Herald and Radio NZ, “National Treasures”.
Both bands are proud of their working band reps and promise to leave everything on the cabana stage both individually and probably collectively in the all in sing alongs that are bound to ensue.
