Celia Church’s sound, reminiscent of the exquisite Gillian Welch, is bathed in Americana sensibilities - close your eyes and let her meandering guitar and sweet, soulful eloquence transport you to a heady, desert landscape.
Born in New Zealand, Celia has collaborated and performed with a number of NZ’s most respected bands and artists – she’s toured with the iconic Headless Chickens (that’s a band name not a euphemism), sung backing vocals for Aussie favourites Shihad and performed in Australia and New Zealand with award-winning singer-songwriter, Julia Deans. Celia also featured on Tiki Taane’s 2007 platinum- selling album Past, Present and Future – delivering the sultry lead vocals for “It’s all in your head.”
While she still maintains strong musical connections to the folks in NZ, Celia has now called Melbourne home for over a decade. She performed extensively with leading Australian dub/reggae band, The Red Eyes, as the group redefined Melbourne’s live music scene in the early 2000’s, and has wooed audiences ever since playing guitar and singing her own material at Melbourne’s best tucked-away venues.
