We are all wiggly with excitement to announce that we have a new date for the No Lights No Lycra outdoor party! The party will be next Saturday 31st January from 12 – 6pm at Tahaki Reserve in Mt Eden.
The shiny new line up of bands is as follows:
Dead Little Penny - 12:00pm - 12:30pm
Country tinged twisted tales about life and love delivered with a heartbreakingly beautiful voice.
Julien Dyne - 1:00pm - 1:30pm
Producer, drummer and DJ tour de force. Alongside his own productions and playing with Ladi 6, Julien has worked with Fat Freddys Drop, Opensouls, Sola Rosa and She’s so Rad. His blunted beats are perfect for a sunny day in the park.
Randa - 2:00pm - 2:30pm
New Zealand’s own sunny hip hop wunderkind and 2014 NZ Music Awards Critics Choice Prize winner. Get loose dancing with a goofy smile while listening to raps about Kelly Bundy, Frankenstein and tennis playing Tamagotchis.
Surrey Boudit - 3:00pm - 4:00pm
Surrey Boudit are a bunch of musicians from Grey Lynn that share a love for the ‘mojo heavy’ sounds of the 60s and 70s. Ska, upbeat Jamaican dancehall and rock’n’roll flavoured jams, six piece Surrey Boudit are a band for the dance floor.
DJ Jamie Newman - 4:00pm - 4:30pm
Suren Unka - 4:30pm - 5:00pm
Progressive electronic music producer and dance floor favourite.
DJ Pieter Borgh - 5:00pm - 6:00pm
The party will be a chance to catch up with NLNL friends, have a dance in the sun and generally hang out having fun. As well as bands and DJs, there will be also be Giant Jenga, Giant Twister, Petanque, and 300m of hand crafted bunting.
So, the party’s set, now we need your help to spread the good word as far as possible. While we have a 1500 strong Facebook group, unfortunately it’s not possible for us to send an invite everyone in the group, meaning that we have to rely on NLNL alumni to get the word out. Please share the event on your timeline, invite your Facebook friends, and ask them to invite their friends! (link below)
A couple of things to note - while we are a big fan of furry friends, please leave your dogs at home. We’re not, however, much of a fan of plastic, so we have made the event plastic bag free. Finally, please note that our permit doesn’t extend to alcohol.
If in the unlikely event that it is raining on the day, it will be postponed to Sunday 1st February.
Finally, while we have managed to cover the vast majority of expenses for the day, and it is basically designed to be free for the NLNL community, it’s an expensive undertaking putting on a party in a park! The bands are all playing for a fraction of what they would usually charge to play, so if you are able to bring along a koha for the bands we (and they) will love you forever.
