The performance arcade live music series presents Flite and Lucien Johnson Sax Quartet
Flite: is an Atmospheric funk group from the South Coast of Wellington.
It all began with Ed Zuccollo's synthesised fingers in a small cave on the South Coast of Wellington. Nikita Tu-Bryant's guitar riffs, vocal melodies and lyrics met his match and then after a few different drummers Rick Cranson met their match and is now and forever will be, THE drummer for them.
Lucien Johnson Sax Quartet:
Lucien Johnson (born 1981) is a tenor saxophonist and composer from Wellington.
He studied at the New Zealand School of Music.
Johnson formed a jazz-inspired octet which has performed at the Wellington International Jazz Festival and the New Zealand Festival.
In 2003 Johnson moved to Europe. He travelled and performed in London, New York, Berlin and Amsterdam before settling in Paris. After some perserverance Johnson played with some important figures in the improvisation world: Marylin Crispell, Lol Coxhill, Itaru Oki, John Betsch, Damo Suzuki and Alan Silva. In Europe Johnson also became more involved as a composer and performer for multi-media projects.
He recently played in a Silo Theatre production of Brecht
and Weill's Threepenny Opera at the Maidment Theatre in Auckland. Returning to New Zealand in 2007, Johnson wrote his album, The Night's Plutonian Shore.
