Gig Information

Germany’s premier post-metal act, THE OCEAN are entering New Zealand waters for the first time. THE OCEAN will be playing their highly acclaimed record Pelagial in full.

The past few years have seen THE OCEAN touring the globe relentlessly with the likes of Opeth, Devin Townsend Project, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Between The Buried And Me, Red Fang, The Black Dahlia Murder and many more. Their unforgettable live show has taken them to the furthest regions of the planet, from Siberia, Russia, USA, Hong Kong, Mexico, China, India and everywhere in between.

Pelagial is a progressive and ambitious musical odyssey, written, recorded, mixed and to-be-performed-live as one single 53-minute piece of music, mixed and mastered by Jens Bogren (Opeth, Katatonia, Orphaned Land) at Fascination Street Studios in Örebrö, Sweden.

Pelagial is a concept record that takes the listener on a journey that begins at the surface of the ocean and plunging through all five pelagic depth zones: epipelagic, mesopelagic, bathyalpelagic, abyssopelagic, and hadopelagic. Unlike a detached conceptual idea, this can actually be heard and felt while listening to Pelagial.

Joining The Ocean at Valhalla will be:

SPOOK THE HORSES
INTO ORBIT
HELGORITHMS
GREY SKIES OVER RAPTURE

SPOOK THE HORSES are an atmospheric post-hardcore band from Wellington, New Zealand. The follow up to their 2011 debut, 'Brighter', was released Feb 2015. Titled 'Rainmaker', their new album sees the band move away from their previous dense trio of guitars and into the arid and spacious. Strings, horns and haunting vocals present 'Rainmaker' as a descent to the dry, desperate earth.

INTO ORBIT are an experimental rock duo from Wellington, New Zealand. With a widely varying style and song dynamics, their sound is characterised by aspects of post-rock, metal, prog, ambient, noise and drone. The duo was founded in February 2013 and in August 2014 they released their debut album Caverns.

HELGORITHMS are a 3 piece post-metal band based in Auckland, drawing influence from bands such as Neurosis, Deafheaven, Cult of Luna and Strapping Young Lad. Helgorithms are new to the scene but already leaving a strong imprint, with two international support slots (Sete Star Sept & Merauder) under their belt, they’ve already gained a fanbase by playing shows with a variety of different bands and not limiting themselves to one target audience. Utilising an 8 String guitar, HELGORITHMS create songs with a mixture of time signatures and textures to take the listener on an aural journey throughout the songs. Heavy use of effects on guitar and bass is used to add just a bit more flavour and depths to the music.

GREY SKIES OVER RAPTURE are a 5 piece metal band with tech death, melodic, math and progessive musical influences.
