Welcome to the Smooth Jazz Apocalypse. Guitarist Reinier Baas is a leading young figure in jazz today, heading up ‘the hippest and most exciting jazz band of the Netherlands’ (VOLKSKRANT). From the sweet and sophisticated to the downright danceable, this gig with Baas’s More Socially Relevant Jazz Music Ensemble (TMSRJME) will go down as one of those unforgettable Wellington Jazz Festival moments.
With a penchant for photoshoots with goats and a knack for inventive album titles (Mostly Improvised Instrumental Indie Music, Smooth Jazz Apocalypse) the ensemble draws inspiration from all over: Brahms, Coltrane and the Arctic Monkeys. If you are looking for something completely different, your search ends here.
Baas is an exceptionally gifted composer and guitarist who has performed with greats like Gregory Porter, Chris Speed and Benjamin Herman, and is a New Rotterdam Jazz Orchestra regular. In TMSRJME he’s assembled a star line-up including bassist Sean Fasciani and saxophonist Ben van Gelder.
