BLACKOUT

From their base in Utrecht, Holland, Black Sun Empire have truly gone global taking their unique brand of high-octane Drum & Bass to enraptured audiences worldwide.
The BSE club night brand, ‘Blackout’, which runs in conjunction with their label of the same name, was founded in 2003 and regularly plays the biggest and best clubs and festival stages across Europe to crowds in their thousands, as well as touring worldwide.
V Energy & Bassfreaks are proud to present the Blackout label night to Christchurch for the first time.

BLACK SUN EMPIRE [NL]

Black Sun Empire represent the finest in dark and tech fueled dance-floor drum & bass. Since bursting onto the scene back in 2000, they’ve continued to develop their own unique style and sound, releasing numerous singles as well as four full-length LPs and establishing themselves as leaders in the field. With their impressive DJ skills and inspirational productions, Black Sun Empire have reached far beyond their native Holland. They’ve toured the world over, with highlights including Glastonbury and numerous other festival appearances, and continue to build on their growing reputation as some of the most exciting and consistent performers around. Their fifth LP ‘From The Shadows’ was released to acclaim in 2012.
Regular visitors to New Zealand, BSE have wowed crowds well into the thousands around the country, so this is your chance to see Milan, Micha and Rene up close and personal.

STATE OF MIND [NZ]

Our very own State of Mind have long out-grown our fair shores, with four acclaimed albums behind them, they are true drum n bass rockstars. Their fourth album, released in 2014 on Blackout Music was voted album of the Year at the Drum n Bass Arena annual awards, adding to their fine catalogue of acclaim that began with anthems like Sunking and Real McCoy way back in 2005.

NEONLIGHT [GERMANY]

Formed of Tobias and Jakob, Neonlight are now one of the scene’s most highly regarded production teams. In only three years the German based duo’s killer blend of musicality, attitude and sheer creativity has seen them work with Drum & Bass royalty, including labels such as Bad Taste, Trust in Music and Viper, earning them countless fans in the process. With high profile releases for Lifted, BSE Recordings and Cause4Concern and tracks with the likes of Aeph, Inside Info, and Mefjus in their impressive discography, Neonlight have become a byword for unique, precise Drum & Bass. Now one of the first acts to be signed exclusively to Black Sun Empire’s Blackout Label, Neonlight are working on their first album and performing regularly at Blackout label nights.

MC LOWQUI

LowQui is a genuine host, wordsmith, and audience entertainer. Regarded by many as a true DJ's MC, his ability to read crowds, compliment mix structures, and facilitate the transfer of energy between DJ and audience is second to none. Now deep into his second decade of the craft, LowQui has worked on a global scale as MC of choice for: Goldie, S.P.Y, Andy C, DJ Marky, Black Sun Empire, dBridge, and as a regular at Metalheadz and Hospitality events. Earning his stripes in the 90s London rave circuit, LowQui took his inspiration from the legendary double-time raps of Stevie Hyper D (RIP) and the razor sharp lyrical delivery of MC GQ. Merging both with the concepts of harmony and balance, he forged his distinctive LowQui sound, breaking down the barrier between performer and attendee like no other. He is the quintessential DIY junglist. In the game for life, LowQui will be toasting microphones until the end of his days.
