This May Wellington-based musicians Tyson Smith and Ed Zuccollo will be playing three shows in the top of the South Island, performing intimate versions of songs from Smith’s album “The Hollow Tree”, released late last year.
A wild, musical terrain, more primal and dangerous than where he's been before, The Hollow Tree features Smith on guitar, vocals, percussion and electric bass with Zuccollo on Moog Synthesizer and also Rick Cranson (Little Bushman) on drums.
Originally hailing from the North Canterbury coast, Tyson’s musical meanderings over the years have been nothing if not diverse.
He has had stints busking in the subways of New York (whilst there studying with some of the city’s top guitarists), performing in big bands on cruise ships, and soaking up influences in Cuba and Central America. Touring with his sister’s world music group “Mundi” and singer Hollie Smith has seen him perform from Stewart Island to Paris, providing myriad experiences to draw from when writing his own solo material.
Ed Zuccollo is a sought after keys player from Wellington. He has toured with a range of artists including Mel Parsons, Nikita the Spooky, and most recently Trinity Roots. He also creates his own original music combining modern electronic production with vintage analogue keyboards. With Tyson Smith he takes on the role of the bass player on his Minimoog synthesizer.
