Bernie Griffen and his band The Thin Men are again touring their original style of blues-based folk music, starting with:
• Titirangi RSA, Auckland, 8 PM, June 5
• Warkworth , Walton Park Motor Lodge, 8 PM, June 6
• Riverhead Tavern, Auckland, 2 PM, June 7
Hard to categorise, Griffen’s music has been dubbed “roughhouse folk”. “National music treasure” is how reviewer Brian Thomas on Sounds Good To Me described Griffen’s Salvation album launch show at The Great Southern Tuning Fork, Vector Arena in Auckland in September.
“This is the second time I have seen Bernie Griffen live. Both times, each with a different band, were electric, from the first few bars and lines of the first song the hairs on your arms were standing up and your spine is alive and pulsing with electric current. Great music does that to me.”
Bernie Griffen and The Thin Men will be playing songs from his two albums, Salvation last year’s rockier follow-on from his first, Bernie Griffen and The Grifters’ Everything So Far, as well as new material.
In another stellar lineup, The Thin Men are Bernie Griffen (vocals, guitar, banjo) Kirsten Warner (acoustic guitar and vocals) Scott J. Mason (drums) Brendan Turner (bass).
The Thin Men are assisted by Scott J. Mason (Mulholland), and Brendan and Alison Turner (recently touring with The Bads and Great North).
