NZTRIO 2015 Loft Series Explodes Into the Night - Fragmenting, Surging and Blasting.
Audience favourites among both classic and contemporary lovers, nationally and internationally, the highly esteemed NZTrio is set to announce their luscious and romantic 2015 Loft series. Inspired by the lovers of music themselves, the French, the three-concert 2015 Loft Series Fragment, Surge and Blast will be running 9th August, 20th September and 8th November at Q Theatre’s Loft.
The first in the series, Fragment, opens with the heartfelt romanticism of Parisian Ernest Chausson leading into a bold new commemoration of the horrific battles in Gallipoli with dramatic images and soundscapes from Cantabrian composer Chris Cree Brown. Appropriately, the concert will round off with an emotional elegy from Sergei Rachmaninoff.
Once again, audiences can look forward to a newly commissioned work and a social night with NZTrio including performance-matched cocktails and a post-show mingle with musicians Justine Cormack, Ashley Brown and Sarah Watkins. NZTrio continue to smash concepts of what a night out with classical music can be, with the annual Loft Series being heralded as the invigorating and contemporary revival of ensemble music in New Zealand.
2014 saw NZTrio wowing audiences with highly lauded performances in Denmark and China, as well as over 20 concerts nation-wide. Having worked together for the past 14 years and with three Doctorates of Music between them, their sultry violin, piano and cello flow seamlessly in a harmonious ensemble dynamic.
The trio continue to expand their activities and give back to the community not only through their music, but by sharing their knowledge and experience with the new generations of NZ musicians. With this year marking the 100th year anniversary of legendary NZ Composer Douglas Lilburn, NZTrio are celebrating by presenting a composing competition in collaboration with Auckland, Waikato, Victoria, Canterbury and Otago Universities. Tertiary-level students are invited to compose pieces that reflect the life and music of Douglas Lilburn, the winners of which will be performed by NZTrio in two October concerts.
Also ahead for the trio is NZTrio: Live! A free high-school programme through which the trio will teach music and business students about turning a passion into a profession, with live performance, discussion and interactive challenges. They are also enjoying the successful release of their latest CD Lightbox, featuring many of their most popular commissions and other NZTrio favourites.
‘Trio’s high energy Loft performance is worthy of its growing audience’
‘Aucklanders now know this is where you can experience chamber music up close and personal, with vigorous and invigorating programming’
William Dart, NZ Herald
“An outstanding variety of short musical vignettes exploring a huge variety of timbres and techniques that continually presented much of interest for the audience to admire.” - Stephen Fisher, Manawatu Standard
