Delaney Davidson presents his latest album Lucky Guy.
LUCKY GUY- DELANEY DAVIDSON
Release Sept 4th 2015.

Once likened to a rat whose teeth would grow up through its own skull if it didn’t gnaw all day, Davidson cooks us up some spaghetti junction of influence with Lucky Guy. Recorded in The Lab Auckland, it is an uncharacteristically contained and succinct album.

His restless creativity manages here to capitalize on what he calls the “engine room” and the secret behind a lot of the bands and albums he has worked on recently. Ben Woolley and Joe McCallum; the drums and bass combo that formed the core of Tami Neilson’s Dynamite and The Sad But True Series, feature strong in the limelight.
With Davidson, they flesh out the songs and work them as only a Trio can, bringing a new life and sinuous muscle to his latest batch:

“Somehow it was always us 3 working with each other on the different projects, stages, albums, and rehearsal rooms. We hit on the three piece and had a stint together until things drifted apart again. Lucky Guy was recorded in that period.”

The songs reflect life as a musician, leaving a lot of the more colorful storytelling for real life observation. Suburban soul pop classic “You Don’t Want Me Around” and the friday night flavor of “Tell It To You” sit next to maudlin glam travel ballads “Eastbound” and “Wait”, winner of the Worlds Saddest Songs competition Berlin 2010.

Armed with the usual alarms his voice sets off, and his “drive on the line”
approach to melody and harmony, Davidson feels this album constitutes one of his most realized and strongest thematic offerings. A strong offering from a well oiled band.

“It was such a great feeling, being used to the unavoidable sprawl of time and touring. We got to make hay while the sun shone and smash it out, song after song. It had the feeling of a beginning, and I even wondered if this was the album I should have made first.”
