Gig Information

The Broken Heartbreakers are looking forward to hitting the road again in support of their new album release, How We Got to Now.

Joining The BHBs for their Wellington show will be the wonderful Rosy Tin Teacaddy who have recently released a stunning new EP In Kindness or Injury.
There will also be a short set of poetry from Rachel O'Neill.

It’s nearly five years since The Broken Heartbreakers released their last album “Wintersun” to excellent reviews and response, and in that time a lot has changed. The music world has changed, the line-up has changed, and the sound of The Broken Heartbreakers has evolved once again.

On their new album How We Got To Now, Howell and Bailey are joined by current drummer Jeff Harford (Bored Games, The Rip, Psychic Maps) and Richard Pickard, who was brought in as bassist for the recording. Pickard is an Auckland musician with a massive playing history with some of New Zealand’s leading musicians.

The Broken Heartbreakers are looking forward to playing songs off the new album with “a few favourite oldies, depending on audience demand,” says Bailey.

Rosy Tin Teacaddy are a folktronica duo from Wellington. Known for their lyrical sharpness and interlacing harmonies, a Teacaddy live shows come sprinkled with theatrics while never distracting from the heart of these modern-day story-tellers.
Formed in 2007, Rosy Tin Teacaddy recently released their fourth offering In Kindness or Injury (Sept 2015). Recorded by Lee Prebble and mastered by Rhian Sheehan, this short-format EP is an atmospheric train trip through conflicts of longing, the despair of defence and NZ’s worst rail disaster. It reads like a topographical map; enough detail to find your way but every chance that you might get lost.

The pair have played multiple Arts Festivals, opened for Jose Gonzalez, Iron and Wine and and Rhian Sheehan and in 2013 were winners of the Fringe best music gong for their collaboration with Sam Prebble, The Explorers Club: Antarctica.
'A world of Kiwi gothic and folktronica in which the possibilities seem wide open'.

“The Broken Heartbreakers have a happy knack of shrouding even the most poignant of tunes in a comforting cloak of warm melodic texture.”

‘Wintersun’ Album Review

a gorgeous album...soft but with substance, sonically rich and beautifully performed.
Radio New Zealand – Nick Bollinger
The Broken Heartbreakers Album Review

desert-dry wit, and melodies sturdy enough to hang your hat on.

‘The Broken Heartbreakers’ Album Review

The Broken Heartbreakers music mixes the bleak with the beautiful, drawing on deep roots of country, folk and classic pop melody, but with a defiant and subversive twist and more than a touch of modern electricity.
