Gig Information

The Broken Heartbreakers are looking forward to hitting the road again in support of their new album release, How We Got to Now.

Opening the show in Oamaru will be Dunedin based singer-songwriter Matt Langley who Graham Reid described as "one of the smaller but brightest lights on the musical landscape".

It’s nearly five years since The Broken Heartbreakers released their last album “Wintersun” to excellent reviews and response, and in that time a lot has changed. The music world has changed, the line-up has changed, and the sound of The Broken Heartbreakers has evolved once again.

On their new album How We Got To Now, Howell and Bailey are joined by current drummer Jeff Harford (Bored Games, The Rip, Psychic Maps) and Richard Pickard, who was brought in as bassist for the recording. Pickard is an Auckland musician with a massive playing history with some of New Zealand’s leading musicians.

There are also cameos from friends of the band including John White, Reb Fountain, Dylan Storey, Steve Abel, Brendan & Alison Turner and Emily Valentine.
Hopefully some of them will join in along the way on tour!

The Broken Heartbreakers are looking forward to playing songs off the new album with “a few favourite oldies, depending on audience demand,” says Bailey.

“The Broken Heartbreakers have a happy knack of shrouding even the most poignant of tunes in a comforting cloak of warm melodic texture.”

‘Wintersun’ Album Review

a gorgeous album...soft but with substance, sonically rich and beautifully performed.
Radio New Zealand – Nick Bollinger
The Broken Heartbreakers Album Review

desert-dry wit, and melodies sturdy enough to hang your hat on.
NZ Sunday Star Times – Grant Smithies
‘The Broken Heartbreakers’ Album Review

The Broken Heartbreakers music mixes the bleak with the beautiful, drawing on deep roots of country, folk and classic pop melody, but with a defiant and subversive twist and more than a touch of modern electricity.
