Gig Information

Sound healing, a practice that has been around for thousands of years in the East as a means of curing many emotional and physical ills, is catching on as a therapy of choice for many stressed out kiwis.

Sound has been utilised in various cultures for thousands of years as a tool for healing through vibrational frequency. Sound helps to facilitate shifts in the brainwave state by using entrainment, synchronising fluctuating brainwaves by providing a stable frequency which the brainwave can attune to. By using rhythm and frequency, it is possible to switch the normal beta state (normal waking consciousness) to alpha (relaxed consciousness), and even reach theta (meditative state) and delta (sleep; where internal healing can occur).

Modern day shaman (healer) Bev Edwards has been a healer for the past 20 years and she
started to incorporate the use of crystal sound healing bowls in 1998 when she received her first bowl and had an amazing experience of the power of sound healing with aboriginal elders. She says the sound that comes from the bowls has a profound effect on people.

“When I play my bowls, people feel the sound go right through their body, with certain tones affecting different energy centres or chakras, providing healing, balancing and meditative benefits,” Bev says.

Bev has been running sound healing sessions all over the country, from festivals such as Prana, through to private sessions in people’s homes and as part of personal development courses, and demand continues to grow as people discover the benefits.

With her latest sound healing event, Bev intends to gather her largest group yet at the Muriwai Surf Club to create healing and balance for those who attend on a much bigger scale.

“When you get a big group together for sound healing, the energy is phenomenal – I reckon we’re going to be able to punch a light through the universe with the energy we’ll create with the vibration of my crystal bowls,” Bev says. “And when we have this kind of energy flowing, we can really help to bring about peace and serenity not only within ourselves and with each other, but with the planet – and that’s what I believe I’m here to do.”
