Drop Bass NZ proudly presents Critical Sound - Saturday October 24th at Neck Of The Woods

Featuring:
EMPEROR // IVY LAB // FOREIGN CONCEPT
with support from Skelta

After one of the most talked-about tours of last year, Critical Sound returns in 2015 bringing 3 of the most exciting and cutting-edge producers in modern drum & bass: Emperor, Ivy Lab & Foreign Concept. This is actually like 3 EP tours in one with each of these artists coming out fresh off the back of their critically acclaimed (no pun intended) releases this year. Expect nothing but ground breaking pure quality from these rising stars as they take you on a journey in to the art form that is drum & bass.

Conceived by Kasra back in 2002 in a front room in north London, Critical Music has grown from a simple idea, driven by a commitment to putting out the best music the scene has to offer and has made an indelible mark on the drum & bass scene, a mark that continues to grow ever-stronger and has now become one of the most well respected independent record labels in the UK and of one of the most inspiring imprints in dance music today. The Critical age is only just beginning.

EMPEROR

Emperor, having proved himself with some heavyweight D&B releases on Symmetry, Titan, Ammunition and some exquisite dubstep gems on the Caliber label all in 2011, has since gone on to become a Critical artist with scene stalwart Kasra.

His debut track ‘Monolith’ released on Critical:Modulations in June 2012 absolutely destroyed dance floors across the D&B scene. This was soon followed by the amazing ‘Jackhammer EP’ on Inspected records & really rammed home this guys potential. His ‘Begin EP’ on Critical furthered his notoriety & his records continue to be heavily rotated by Kasra, Enei, Andy C, Hype, Rockwell, Foreign Concept, Phace & Misanthop, Prolix & and Wilkinson. Emperor recently teamed-up with Mefjus for their unstoppable ‘Disrupted’ which sky-rocketed them to huge sets at Imagination & Let it roll in 2014. Emperor is without doubt one of the most exciting new producers in drum & bass.

EMPEROR - ‘INTO BLACK’ EP

“Dropping a heady mix of peak-time performance drum & bass, the 'Into Black EP' is yet another piece of essential electronic fresh from the Critical vault.”

IVY LAB

At the start of 2012 Sabre, Stray and Halogenix teamed up to drop one of the most blissful pieces of drum & bass that year, ‘Oblique’. Since then the dreamteam have continued their late night studio sessions and are now ready to announce their new collaborative project, Ivy Lab.

2011 ultimately held host to the meeting of the mind’s of Sabre, Stray and Halogenix. Initially starting off as 3 mates making beats, what was realised fairly early on was that there was potential for a lot more. ‘Oblique’ firmly set the path for the cementing of the coalition and after attracting the support of some of the highest celebrated labels and DJs of the moment, Ivy Lab was born.

IVY LAB - TWENTY QUESTIONS EP

Ivy Lab return for 2015 with their most ambitious and most accomplished EP yet, spanning across the most pearlescent of D&B through to rough, rugged glitch and raw half time grooves.

FOREIGN CONCEPT

The name Foreign Concept has come to represent both a DJing distinction and a multiform production style that synthesises the sounds of yesterday and tomorrow in chord with the Critical Music ethos.

The London born, but now Bristol dwelling talent took to the turntables in 2004, and whilst bringing to the fore a future-thinking genre inclusivity that makes his DJ sets uniquely hard to miss, Foreign Concept was quickly noted for his finesse for infectious blends of which lead to an international DJ schedule as a club favourite.

In 2011 , after forging a distinct sound of his own, the young producer galvanised the scene, with signings to Shogun Audio and Samurai Music, amongst others, as well as catching the attention of drum and bass visionary, Kasra, with the dank dystopian half-time hitter Mob Justice and was immediately signed exclusively to his label, Critical Music.

The eclectic producer has consistently experimented in his music with a devout focus on the quality of his repertoire. His more recent work has involved the vocal talents of DRS, T-Man, Punchline (Emc), and Naomi Olive, plus talk of more in the pipeline. In only three years, Foreign Concept has amassed support from some of the biggest players in the UK’s electronic music game including Andy C, Friction, Sub Focus, Benji B, Zed Bias and Mista Jam.Â

Now, with the lead track of his forthcoming EP already decimating the current state of things, Foreign Concept may just be about to fortify his title as a true mainstay of the drum and bass genre.

The Make Meals EP will be hitting stores on vinyl and digital download in early September 2014.

FOREIGN CONCEPT - MAKE MEALS EP

The Make Meals EP showcases a fresh approach to the genre with a diverse and dynamic 6-tracker. Lead track 'Make Meals' has been turning dance floors inside out with DJ's from across the scene championing its innovative take on hip hop infused drum and bass.
