Come spend a lazy Sunday afternoon enjoying the music of Megahertz and enduring the music of WhEn PEts ATtaCk! Free Entry at Castrols Garage on Victoria St ~ but you will have to pay for your own beverages. Open from 3:00pm, first band on about 4:00pm.
The stars of the afternoon will be Christchurch's indy power trio Megahertz who are set to become a quartet with the addition of keyboard maestro Evan Collins. The band will be plating songs from their debut EP as well as revealing new tracks written for their debut album, scheduled to start recording in the New Year.
Drawing influences from the likes of Sugar, The Straightjacket Fits, Dinosaur Jr and Husker Du, Megahertz display a strong pop sensibility and a warm twelve string guitar driven sound. Copies of their e.p. will be available at the gig - or head over to their Bandcamp page.
WhEn PEts ATtaCk! return for a rare live performance. Having taken Karamea by storm, and with a strong support base in Westport, the band now have Christchurch firmly set in its sights as it works towards establishing itself as Burnsides answer to Dave Dobbyn.
Gemma Syme, the Content Manager for RDU, rates WhEn PEts ATtaCk! as a band that she feels genuinely sorry for, and also raised questions about their mental capacity. Joe Sampson, the driving force behind Melted Ice Cream Records, said of the band it takes balls to make music that is simultaneously so pretentious and dopey, derivative and uniquely craptastic. Music guru Vicki Anderson once exclaimed (before banging her head onto her desk) get that crap away from me, I have real music to listen to!
