In celebration of Women in Horror month, we're going to take you back to the very beginning of women's history in horror cinema. In recent years, the horror genre has been rejuvenated by directors such as the Soska Sisters and Ana Lily Amirpour, and the fierce leading ladies they write, who often blurr lines between monster and hero. Back in the silent era however, when most women film-makers were either animators or trapped in didactic melodramas, we just have monsters - particularly sapphic vampires, housebound ghosts, supernaturally loveless sciencey ladies('), and nasty witches, because apparently men have always been afraid of witches.
We'll be playing a wide variety of haunting melodies and spooky musics from the best female musicians in the dark corners of dark music, from the birth of gothic rock in the slasher era to the present day.
