UNCLE SILVERBACK - Two Turntables and a Bass Trombone. Saturday 23 April. From 8pm. Free.
Uncle Silverback is a DJ, turntablist, instrumentalist and obsessive crate digger. He's kept busy with regular performances on both trombone and turntables with some of the top Wellington bands, including Brockaflowersaurus-rex, Newtown Rocksteady, and Reptet.
Growing up in the UK, he started buying vinyl in his teens, and in the late nineties was lucky enough to be involved with both the resurgent funk and soul scene and the rapidly growing hip-hop turntablism scene. Since those formative years, Uncle Silverback has put together a huge and diverse record collection, clocked up thousands of hours behind the turntables and developed some dazzling technical skills.
These days he can be heard seamlessly blending anything from jazz, funk and hip hop to balkan beats, dub and house, incorporating sampling and scratching of live instruments to create remixes on the fly.
