With a soulful sound, straight from the golden age of country and rockabilly, Tami Neilson’s voice has been described as somewhere between Patsy Cline and Wanda Jackson, with just a little bit of Peggy Lee sophistication.
Singing her heart out along endless roads and stages, from her days as a young girl in Canada touring with the Neilson Family band, opening for the likes of Johnny Cash, to her full blossoming in New Zealand as a formidable talent in her own right. Tami Neilson’s singing is a hybrid of acoustic torch and stripped-bare alt-country. In 2014 she was awarded the APRA Silver Scroll, for excellence in song writing, for her song 'Walk (Back to Your Arms)'.
Buzzing with raw energy and talent, Neilson makes every song her own. In this concert, she
puts her heart and soul into the songs of sinners drawing on the repertoire of Johnny Cash, Tom Waits, Mavis Staples, Bob Dylan, Kris Kristofferson and Sister Rosetta Tharpe. From haunting ballads of heartbreak and irony to harmony-infused numbers, this live performance is one to be remembered.
Tami Neilson (vocals); Joseph McCallum (drums); Michael Hall (bass); Brett Adams (guitar); Dianne Swann (backing vocal) and Neil Watson (guitar).
