CELLO CHARMS
NZ Barok and Daniel Yeadon
5 August – Wellington
6 & 7 August – Auckland

Experience the sound of the cello as Bach, Handel and Haydn would have known it when international cellist Daniel Yeadon joins NZ Barok in a concert series including Haydn’s magnificent Cello Concerto No. 1 in C Major, performed for the first time in NZ on period instruments.
NZ Barok is New Zealand’s national baroque orchestra, and its second concert series of 2016 – including its first ever performance in Wellington - focuses on the charms of the cello in a programme also featuring works by CPE Bach, WF Bach, and Mozart.
Joseph Haydn’s moving and lyrical Cello Concerto No. 1 in C Major was composed in the mid-1700’s, and today is one of the most popular and loved cello works of the classical music repertoire.
It’s a work very familiar to guest soloist Daniel Yeadon, who makes his NZ debut performing on a cello made by English luthier William Forster II, in 1781.
Exceptionally versatile, cellist and viola da gambist Yeadon’s repertoire ranges from Renaissance to contemporary. A co-founder of the early instrument ensemble, Ironwood, he is a member of the Australian Chamber Orchestra, has appeared as soloist with the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra and has performed on several national chamber music tours for Musica Viva Australia.
Currently a lecturer at Sydney Conservatorium of Music, he is a regular guest principal cellist with period instrument ensembles based in London, including the English Baroque Soloists and the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment.
