The True Good Songs and Words Of Patti Smith - A Fundraiser For The Chch Womens Centre
Thursday July 28th at Blue Smoke sees some of Christchurch’s foremost songwriters, singers and poets gather together to help fundraise and keep open The Women’s Centre in Christchurch. A thirty-year-old institution in the city, The Women’s Centre is a place for women, run by women offering support, solidarity and resources. It faces an uncertain future due to funding cuts and budget shortfalls. In a terrible paradox, funding for mental health and well being providers is at an all time low when need (especially post earthquake) is at an all time high.
Not prepared to see the centre go down without a fight the aforementioned artists will join together on the 28th in order to encourage people to trade the donation of the ticket price for a night of music and poetry, more specifically the music and poetry of one of popular music’s most powerful and incendiary names, Patti Smith.
The Eastern, Paul Ubana Jones, Amiria Grenell, Carmel Courtney, Reb Fountain, Audrey Baldwin, Lindon Puffin, Emma Cameron (Decades), Alice Anderson, Emily Fairlight, Rebecca Nash, Ryan Fisherman, Brendan Gregg and more will interpret Smith’s works throughout the night. Songs, Poems and Prose will all thunder across Blue Smoke on the night, all for a cause of good and honest intent.
The Centre also has a givealittle page: givealittle.co.nz/org/womensc
