Gig Information

The first Old Hall Gig for 2016!! – yes, we know, we are already over half way through!

One of only two OHG’s this year, the first at the beautifully restored Khandallah Town Hall will feature Tui award winning violinist Martin Riseley, a screening of zany short film ‘Joseph Gets Dressed’, and music from The Frank Burkitt Band - for a second half of upbeat americana and folk fun to warm us all up now that the true depths of the Wellington winter is here!

The Khandallah Town Hall will suit this selection perfectly, with its raised stage and elegant interior, the original building is well over 100 years old and was beautifully restored and updated with some comfortable mod-cons in 2011.

After successfully releasing their first album 'Fools and Kings' in November 2015, The Frank Burkitt Band have become well known for Burkitt's entertaining song-writing, tight arrangements and delicious harmony. Although heavily influenced by bluegrass, jazz, western swing, country, Americana and Burkitt’s love of his native Scottish folk – it is highly unique and skilled song-writing that defines Burkitt. Backed up by a band that understands perfectly how to add infectious rhythm and groove, varied and skilled solo breaks and endorphin-exploding harmonies.

“Simultaneously delightful and stressful to watch, and oodles of fun,” Joseph Gets Dressed, directed by Gemma Gracewood and Corey Gegner, sees Kinetic artist and YouTube star Joseph Herscher build the biggest machine of his life: a contraption that will dress him from head to toe in front of a live audience.

Martin Riseley, is Head of Strings at Te Kōki New Zealand School of Music. Winning the VNZMA Tui award for Best Classical Album last year, Martin will be performing Bach's Chaconne for solo violin - a piece which has been described as 'the Eiffel Tower of love songs' and 'fifteen minutes of shattering intensity in the heartbreaking key of D minor'.

Once again, this Old Hall Gig will be BYO, so be sure to bring something scrummy (or scrumpy!) to drink, and a cup!

Better late than never, come along and settle in for the first Old Hall Gig of the year.
