Thusday 1st September The Uprights Quintet will play their debut at Late Lounge the Dowse!
Back in 2013 we recorded a wee album of original jazz and blues that I had written, but some of us disappeared off overseas and we never got to play it live, so after a few years and a few thousand kilometres, we'll finally give these tunes their first outing, plus some new new things that I've written since then.
The Uprights Quintets' music is reminiscent of an old Blue Note record: warm, soulful, and swinging, with influences such as Lou Donaldson, Sonny Clark and Cannonball Adderley permeating the sound and the line up for the show is great: Dayle Jellyman (3 Rays/Darren Watson and the Dangerous Experts) on upright piano, Dan Yeabsley (Twinset/The Eggs) on alto saxophone, Andy Christiansen (The Black Seeds) on trumpet, recently returned expat bass ace, Phil Boniface (Baixa Blue) on upright bass, and Mike Jensen on drums (Roseneath Centennial Ragtime Band).

We're really looking forward to finally being able to play these songs and as always it would be great to see a few familiar faces there!
Band starts at 7pm Entry: Free. (Koha available).
Cheers!
