Gig Information

KFC (Kingsland Folk Club, not the chicken shop), are proud to present “Finger Picking Good”, a special full-sized show at The Wine Cellar featuring sets from some of our favourite bands and musicians who have graced the KFC stage over the past three years.

With Great North, Narentines, Cricket Farm, Looking For Alaska and Kendall Elise on the bill, this is set to be a pretty wonderful mish-mash of genres and sounds like all KFC shows gone by.

Although it has been given the title “folk club”, KFC is definitely not-your-average traditional folk club. In fact, it is a completely different beast entirely, having featured a multitude of musicians and genres over its time. We've had psych-surf, alt-country, ethereal noise music, pop-folk, neo-soul, jazz, waltz, pretty much everything under the sun really, and this night will be no different.

NOVEMBER 3 // THE WINE CELLAR // 8PM // $10 ENTRY

GREAT NORTH
This alt-folk/country band have won hearts everywhere, earning a New Zealand Music Award for best folk album in 2013 and 2015.
They've amazed at KFC too many times for us to declare over 2013/2014, and we're beyond excited to have them come along to play a full set at The Wine Cellar this year.
What's not to love about bold and well-crafted lyrics and hearty harmonies'

NARENTINES
Made up of Milan Borich of Pluto, Francis Hunt of Stereobus, and fronted by Ben King of Grand Rapids and Goldenhorse, this trio offer up harmony based country-folk rock reminiscent of Neil Young.
They played their debut show this year at KFC back in July, which featured all original material penned by Ben, and had the audience shouting out for more when their mini 3 song set came to a close.

CRICKET FARM
Quirky three piece Cricket Farm offer up whimsical indie-jazz with songs all about romance and being human. Guitarist Joel Vinsen, and songwriters Hayley Robertson and Sims Ross, band together to create the unique and playful sound of folk-waltz.

LOOKING FOR ALASKA
Looking for Alaska are a pop-folk act from Hamilton, fronted by real-life couple Aaron Gott and Amy Maynard, and their onstage chemistry leaves them easy to adore.
The two have recently emerged from Roundhead Studios, where they have just completed the recording for their debut album with their band.
We can't wait to be a part of their nationwide tour in promotion of their brand new album.

KENDALL ELISE
This alt-country/folk darling has a breathtakingly beautiful voice that is offset by her often raw and personal lyrical genius.
She opened our very first KFC show this season, and blew us all away instantly.
Kendall has previously played with Thee Rum Coves and The Situations, but broke out on her own earlier this year to focus on her solo music. She's currently recording, and we are waiting with bated breath!
