Gig Information

In 1996, the New Pacific Music Ensemble was formed in pursuit of new forms and combinations of island rhythms and instruments. By combining an array of cultural identities, the ensemble seek a concept of ‘inter-culture’, producing a new, unique musical identity.

In their embracing conflict and complication within the musical relationships, the NPME aim to avoid a layering of culture, where sympathetic identities are stacked atop or side by side each other, striving instead to arrive at new, original forms through synthesis.

with:

Andrew McMillan – electronics
John Bell (NZ./KR.) – mallet percussion
Tua Meti – log drums/uke
Jacob Unuia – log drums/uke
Lindsay Unuia – log drums/uke
Ben Sinclair – saxophones
Fin Scholes – trumpet
