The most anticipated event of the year is here! Carnaval 2017 with beat maestros Só Samba, Wellington’s first roots samba band, bringing the real Brazilian Carnaval vibe to the capital since 2013! This year the event will take place at Hotel Bristol, in Cuba Street.
Expect the unexpected, but this is what's planned for the evening, the rest is up to you:
9.30pm - Samba Collective Aotearoa, recreating the African-influenced traditional Northeast samba de roda circles which later gave birth to contemporary samba. The perfect way to warm up for the party!
10.30pm – Só Samba playing the best of Brazilian Carnaval tunes to keep you moving: roots samba, samba-enredo, samba-funk, samba-everything, and of course the band's traditional marchinhas set that you all know so well!
There will be Brazilian food and drinks on the menu, so we recommend you arrive early to get the full experience and flavours of Brazil. There will also be prizes for best costumes, so keep your 7s costumes on, it’s Carnaval after all!
Carnaval is all about indulging for several days, so this year Só Samba is planning some pre and post events in Feb-March to celebrate like Brazilians do. So keep an eye out and let’s party!
