Wellington Jazz Co-operative (WJC) is pleased to announce it will be holding regular fortnightly gigs at the Pyramid Club. The first gig is Breakfast of Champions on 9 February 2017 (8-10pm).
Jake Baxendale (saxophone), James Paul (guitar) and Cory Champion (drums, no relation) perform some free-flowing meditations on their own themes, and any others that might occur. Ornette Coleman, Wayne Shorter, Paul Motian or Radiohead might have a hand in proceedings, indirectly of course - or they may not. Songs and improvisations blur into one another and provide a springboard into the next soundscape.
The WJC is a performance event presenting new original music influenced by the jazz genre. Our vision is to provide an opportunity and platform for creative musicians to present new, interactive, original improvised music without commercial restrictions from an audience or venue.
